Laptop and PC deals: the model number, not the marketing name

Match the exact configuration, read what refurbished means on each listing, and check which price evidence exists before trusting a discount.

The product name is not the product

A laptop family name identifies a chassis, not a machine. The same HP 15, Dell Inspiron 15 or Lenovo IdeaPad 3 covers dozens of builds with different processors, memory, storage and screens, sold at prices that differ by hundreds. Find the full model or part number in the listing and compare that. Two listings sharing a family name are not two prices for the same thing.

Four specifications decide the price

Processor generation, memory, storage type and capacity, and the screen panel. A current-generation chip against one three years old is the difference most discounts are hiding. Check whether the memory is soldered to the board, because a cheap 8GB machine that cannot be upgraded is a different purchase from one that can. For screens, panel type and resolution matter more than size.

Refurbished, renewed, open box and used are four conditions

Marketplace listings use these words loosely and they are not interchangeable. Ask who refurbished it, what was replaced, what warranty comes with it and from whom, and for a used machine what the battery health is. A manufacturer-refurbished unit with a year of cover and a privately refurbished one with thirty days are both called refurbished. The condition field on the listing, not the title, is the one to read.

What the price evidence here can and cannot tell you

A tracked-drop label means we recorded that listing's price falling. It does not mean the configuration is competitive, because a poor specification can fall in price and still be poor value. Where a retailer shows a reference price, it is their comparison, labelled as theirs. Neither number says anything about the machine itself; the specification and the reviews do.

Check the warranty region before you check the price

Coverage is regional. A machine imported from another market may carry a warranty that cannot be claimed where you live, and a marketplace seller's own guarantee is not the manufacturer's. Confirm what is covered, by whom, for how long, and whether returns run to the seller or to the manufacturer.
